Kevin Hammes and His Excellent Use of DorsaVi's Running Module

DorsaVi's ViMove Running Module

Although this blog is dedicated to dorsaVi’s Athletic Movement Module (AMI), customers and potential clients often approach our sales team with an interest in purchasing dorsaVi’s Running Module in addition to the AMI module.

The dorsaVi Running Module is an excellent addition to the AMI and helps further assess athletes by measuring key components of their running style:

  • Initial Peak Acceleration (IPA) – The vertical acceleration at foot strike, measured in gs.
  • Ground Reaction Force (GRF) – Average vertical force applied to the ground during the midstance phase of the gait cycle, measured in Newtons of force.
  • Absolute Symmetry Index – The symmetry of forces side to side, measuring the percentage of asymmetry between average GRF values.
  • Ground Contact Time (GCT) – average time on the ground per footfall, measured in ms.

We would love to take the time to congratulate Kevin Hammes, PTA, and his client, Brandon, on an awesome race, powered by dorsaVi’s ViMove Running Module! They place 23rd and 4th overall out of 544 runners in a recent race in southern MO.

Kevin Hammes is an excellent example for our ViMove Running Module. Kevin utilized our Running Module to establish a baseline from 6 or 7 tests when healthy. He then used these baseline metrics to compare to later assessments during various phases of training and competition. Next, he tested every 6-8 weeks to provide current/updated running metrics for his clients and for himself as a runner.

His goal was to ensure the runners were not drifting outside recommended guidelines for GRF (ground reaction forces), and IPA (initial peak acceleration), as well as looking for form breaks during longer runs due to fatigue.

This practice helps not only prevent injury due to the forces of impact or any asymmetries but improves performance.

This is a great use of the tech to keep him and his runner clients on the road or the long haul!
